Interior of an art gallery or bookstore with white walls and high ceiling, featuring a variety of framed artwork displayed on racks and leaning against a pink sofa. There are paintings of abstract and minimalist styles, a woman dressed in white sitting on a chair, and various decorative items including books, plants, and lamps. Natural light floods the space through a large skylight and window with curtains.

A little about me.

Hi, I’m Lucy.

I’m 30 and split my time between Springs, East Hampton, and NYC.

I love school. I got my BA in Psychology and then my MS in Education. I was a middle school art teacher before fully committing to painting in 2025, and I’m hoping to go back to school for my MFA.

I’m on the board of Zeno Mountain Farm, a camp and creative community in Vermont for people with and without disabilities. It is one of the most creative and joyful places I know. (Check it out →https://zenomountainfarm.org/)

My grandfather is Willem de Kooning. I admire him, as so many artists do. Some days, that connection gives me a healthy dose of imposter syndrome. But ultimately, I’m deeply grateful for the privilege this has given me.

Why I paint

I paint because I don’t like to take my emotions at face value. When I started painting more seriously around 2019, I was using large-scale abstraction to help investigate and articulate a lot of what was going on.

More recently, in 2025, I began painting in a different style. I got smaller and more literal with my depictions. Titles became slightly more important to me. Comedy too!

I’m exploring a lot more themes of love, loss, what a home is, and growing up. Recently, i’ve been noticing the more personal I get, oddly, the more confident I feel about standing behind the work and sharing it proudly.

Thank you for visiting! It means so much to me.
